Vanessa Naran: Two Ceremonies

A Golden Day

Storyteller: Vanessa Naran, NZ

Newlywed couple smiling at eachother on their wedding day.

What was the best part of your special day?

We both loved our day, we had both an Indian ceremony and a civil ceremony so it was a long fast-paced day, but we had so much fun celebrating with our friends and family.

Newlywed portrait at sunset.

What is your favorite image from your wedding and why?

It would have to be the sunset shots which are at the end of the book. One of the most memorable special moments was when our photographer whisked us away for some sunset shots. We 'snuck' into some fields just in time for beautiful golden hour lighting, we were able to get some some fresh air were able to have a brief moment to ourselves and chat about everything that had just happened. It was a special moment to be able to let it all sink in as husband and wife.

First look from an Indian ceremony.

What is your favorite story behind a single shot in the book?

The first look images (before the ceremony) are pretty special. Alpesh was facing the other way and I remember walking up behind him and tapping his shoulder when he turned around that was the first glimpse we both got of each other. We did a first look as in our Indian ceremony the groom doesn't see the bride walk down the aisle. My brothers hold up a sheet until I am on stage and then some rituals are performed and then we get to see each other. The reaction of Alpesh's face on the image above always makes me laugh so much!
