We strongly recommend Canterbury as the region offers plenty of outdoor adventures and brilliant alpine views you can’t find anywhere else. It’s worth visiting Lake Tekapo – famous for its gorgeous turquoise waters and beautiful night sky. Of course, you can also visit Aoraki (Mount Cook), the tallest mountain in New Zealand, which has fantastic hiking trails and more stargazing at the International Dark Sky Reserve.
